22/07/2011

The Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPC) congratulates Mohd Salam Sidek on his attaining the bronze award on merit at the World Para Archery Tournement, held in Torino Italy, which ended recently.

The national elite Paralympic archer became the first paralympian to qualify for the 2012 London Paralympics on merit. Mohd Salam earned his ticket to London after winning a bronze medal in the men's Recurve ARW2 event (wheel chair).

According to news reports, Mohd Salam was quoted as saying, “Competition in the World Championships this year was very stiff, especially with the prowess of archers from Iran and South Korea."

This would be Mohd Salam’s third participation in the World Paralympics. In both his previous participations in the Athens Paralympics (2004) and Beijing (2008), Mohd Salam qualified for the quarter finals. In Italy, Mohd Salam who beat Tseng Lung Hui from Taiwan, 7-3 in the quarter-finals, lost to South Korea's Lee Myeong-Gu 4-6 in a keenly contested encounter.
