The Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPC) is proud to announce that MPC’s Exco member, John Ng, has been appointed by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to serve on the ITTF’s Para Table Tennis Division with effect from May 2011 to May 2014.
Ng, who is an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, will be Asia’s representative for the division, with his major area of work being liaising with the Asian Table Tennis Union and Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) to work to promote integration in Asia as well as to develop Para Table Tennis in all associations in the continent.
ITTF is the governing body for Table Tennis through the ITTF Para Table Tennis Committee. The rules of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) apply to the Paralympic Table Tennis competitions with slight modifications regarding the serve rules for athletes competing in a wheelchair.
Table Tennis was included in the first Paralympic Games in 1960 and is practiced in 2009 by athletes from more than 100 different countries. Athletes from all disability groups (with the exception of athletes with a visual impairment) participate and compete in Table Tennis in standing and sitting classes.
Men and women competing individually, in doubles, as well as in team events. A match comprises five sets of 11 points each and the winner is the player or pair winning three of the five sets.
