Over the last two decades, our national paralympians undertake various challenges to participate in various international competitions and championships.

Para athletes also have been exposed and given the equal opportunity to compete to the highest. Since the Paralympic high performance programs were placed under the management of the National Sports Council (NSC), exposure and training is now more organized for these athletes and welfare of them are not neglected.

Programs under the MSN currently lead to participation in high performance events for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Elite Para Athlete Training Preparation Program is managed by NSC and NSC emphasized more in highlighting athletes’ with high performance to a more competitive levels.

This includes all efforts to set target to obtain medals at the Asean Para Games, Asian Para Games, EAD Commonwealth Games and Paralympic Games as well as other individual championships.

MPC has more than 200 para athletes who are actively taking part  at the highest level, including powerlifting athletes Siow Lee Chan won a bronze at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

In 2005, the National Sports Council (NSC) began recognizing the nation’s top male and female athletes with a disability with a yearly award equivalent to the National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards.
